SGI Indy

The Indy was SGI's low-end desktop machine designed for desktop publishing and simple multimedia rather than a full-scale graphics machine. The Indy was the first machine to include a digital video camera as standard.

Congo (1995)

Indys are used in TraviCom datacenter, including one with an IndyCam for videoconferencing. There's another fake Indy laptop l (very similar to the laptop in Twister).

First Kid (1996)

Luke has an Indy in his room at the White House.

Luke uses his Indy to chat to friends and, unwitting, his abductor online, and also uses it to fool the security services into thinking he is in when he and Sam go out.

Would even the first kid have several thousand dollars worth of Unix workstation in his room?

The Peacemaker (1997)

There are Indys all over the place - including mobile military units. Even the Russian mafia seem to use them!

Twister (1996)

The Indy is used to display the data from "Dorothy" the tornado measuring device. There is a specially built Indy laptop, and an Indy Presenter.

Although the work of the machine is representative of what the Indy is capable of, the laptop is not very authentic - although the mock-up was bult by SGI.
