An old friend of Jim Rockford's is killed in an apparent accident on the freeway. Jim is suspicious and teams up with rookie P.I. Richie Brockelman to investigate the death.

Jim and Richie con their way into an office to gain access to computer records in an effort to find out more about the owner of 1414 Willis Avenue. There is a brief shot of lights flashing on a 1620 console.
