Chocky (1984)

Matthew Gore is a school child who starts behaving strangely, seemingly talking to himself. His parents write this off as an imaginary friend but it soon becomes apparent that there is more to it.

Atari 800

Matthew plays on his friend Colin's Atari 800 and, with Chocky's help, beats the game causing the computer to "overload" in the process.
