While the CDC 924 would have been extremely out of date in 1984, many control systems are not able to be upgraded and so are kept running well past their prime. It is for this reason that the US Armed Forces uses floppy disks for transferring control data in its nuclear arsenal even into 2018. As such, the realism of having a 24 year old computer system running a factor is not out of place.
