The Altair 8800 is considered by many to be the world's first home computer. Released in 1975 as a kit a pre-assembled, the standard configuration had an 8080 processor and 256 bytes of RAM.

Microsoft's first project is developing the BASIC language for it Altair 8800. MITS send them an Altair when their project bears fruit. Altairs also appear at the Homebrew Computer Club.
